This (white) American Life, Part II...with the actual podcast

In my first post of the day, I endeavored to recreate a broadcast from This American Life from an old memory. I'd tried to find it through various searches but was unsuccessful. And so i wrote what I recalled, which was the gist, if not exact.

However, luckily SciFi Dad is a better searcher than I am and he found the exact piece I meant. Thanks!

Please, have a listen...it's an amazing story. A thousand times more powerful than what I tried to recreate.

I've been listening to TAL for years and years and years and years. I wish I got to my computer earlier today because I could have told you where to find the podcast. Also, if you miss TAL, pick up the stream from http://www.thislife.org. I doubt I could work without it!

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Quorum

After being confronted with written evidence, Julie admits that she is a total attention whore. In some things, in some ways, sometimes I look outward for validation of my worth and existence. I admit it. It's my weak spot, my vanity spot . Does the abstinence message for drug use work?

This past week I've made time to read up about social aspect awareness and education programs for young children in our public schools. My interest, of course, began with the red ribbon program , which I became alarmingly familiar with due to my daughter's negative experience . I read the Brain, Child article ( Scared Straight? Or Just Scared? Do elementary school anti-drug campaigns work? by Juliette Guilbert), which was excellent, as well as the research study that found the Boomerang effect of drug education and awareness programs that article cited (see a fact sheet that provides source citing for the University of Illinois article and also read the original Brain, Child article for more information).
