Curses, with Travel, and some Just Posts and Hmms on the side

As Persistence develops her talking skills, in addition to the Italian accent, she tends to sound somewhat like a drunken sailor, by which I mean uses Very Base Language.

In the car, she regularly yells, "F*CK! F*CK!"

I can see how you might blame me here---my aggressive driving and verbosity. However, it's not the case.

She's simply expressing her joy at seeing a large truck.

It occurred to me after a few of these episodes (and similar) that cursing, in addition to being Very Base Language Indeed, also includes some of the easiest words to say.

And so, the next time you are Beyond Ability to Speak Coherently or are, for some reason struggling to speak, and all that occurs to you are some curses, understand this is your reptilian brain reaching deep and finding the simple language that it can comprehend and verbalize.

Then say, "No, I meant to say truck, honestly!"

I confess: I'm out of town. I know, I said nothing, but there you have it. It didn't occur to me as an issue until I realized I will be traveling on Hump Day Hmm day.

I have been getting your emails, and I will put up the Hump Day Hmm host post. But it will probably be later Wednesday.

Also I am trying to email out the button text to those who have asked for it.

In the meantime, make sure to drop by Jens' spot to review the incredible list of participants in June's Just Post.

LOL! That's funny! You're right though about the curse words. They are the easiest to say!

There is no release like the release affording at a loud *f-word*. Now that I've learned how to say it in Thai, it's become more frequent because I have the luxury of not being understood.

Bad habit though. I know. LOL

I will write a post for the Hmmm tomorrow... late morning.

Peace,

I muttered a bad word in Spanish a couple of days ago, and Max, as he does with EVERY word out of my mouth lately, repeated it.

Hhmm. It was both hilarious and mortifying.

Another story from when I was young and getting used for wresting practice: my brother had me pinned down and I started to say "For goodness sake, let me up!" but all I could manage was "Ffffff" and "uck" because he was crushing my lungs. He was on his feet and running to tell on me in one smooth move! No one believed me.

I really want to participate in the Hmm, but I am totally empty headed. It seems to be a lingering condition.

I have a friend whose kid said "f*ckie" for extra big trucks.

Send the button, but how do I attach the thing? I managed to download it but I am a total moron about these things.

My son could say truck perfectly until the day we saw a fire truck out the window. For months and months, it was only Fire F&ck. It was hilarious. He was around two at the time, also, I think.

ROFL...Patience and I had a conversation in the car about that the other day. She recognized that I was flustered by Persistence's persistence in using the word f*ck over and over and over.

When I finally realized she was referring to the truck next to us I valiantly tried to help her substitute the "tr" for the "f".

Finding great pleasure in my discomfort, Patience assured me...repeatedly, that she was not saying truck, but f*ck.

So it goes...

Out of town! Fun!

And KayTar, says "Storyc*ck!", which is meant to be "Story rocks!" from the Pinky Dinky Doo song.

And yes, she is all hopped up on the A-Doo-doo. She even does the dance. Dear goodness.

But she runs around saying "Storyc*ck! Storyc*ck!" all the live long day. The joys of emerging language. I totally get a kick out of it. :)

Cancer's Calling Card

Foreword: I'm not a medical person, or any kind of expert. This post shouldn't be taken as God's word carved in stone by Moses. In other words, don't consider it to be any kind of authority or use it to treat, diagnose, or select medications. Do your own research and talk to your doctor, an actual expert, who, you know, went to medical school and stuff. This post is merely my best understanding of cancer and cancer treatment and prevention, as related to our situation, based on what I've learned from reading and talking to doctors. Author's Note: If you aren't interested in the cancer discussion and the things I learned, and only want to know the outcome of our appointment with the oncologist yesterday, skip to the end. I've divvied this up by sections, so go to the last section. What would you do if one day a postcard arrived in the mail to warn you that sometime in the next three years you would be diagnosed with cancer? Would you believe it? Change an

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Quorum

After being confronted with written evidence, Julie admits that she is a total attention whore. In some things, in some ways, sometimes I look outward for validation of my worth and existence. I admit it. It's my weak spot, my vanity spot . If you say I am clever, comment on a post, offer me an award, mention me on your blog, reply to a comment I left on your blog, or in any way flatter me as a writer...I am hopelessly, slavishly devoted to you. I will probably even add you to my blogroll just so everyone can see the list of all the cool kids who actually like me . The girl, she knows she is vain in this regard , but after much vanity discussion and navel-gazing , she has decided to love herself anyway, as she is (ironically) and will keep searching for (1) internal validation and (2) her first person . Until I reach a better point of self-actualization, though, may I just say that this week you people have been better than prozac and chocolate (together, with a side of white choc

In defense of vanity...I think

Do you have one of those issues where you argue with yourself? Where you just aren't sure what you actually think because there are so many messages and opinions on the topic around you? I have more than one like this. However, there is one topic that has been struggling to the top of my mind recently: vanity and perceived vanity. Can vanity be a good thing? Vanity has historically been truly reviled. Vanity is number seven of the Seven Deadly Sins. It's the doppleganger of number seven on the Seven Holy Virtues list: humility. There are many moralistic tales of how vanity makes you evil and brings about a spectacular downfall. Consider the lady who bathed in the blood of virgins to maintain her youth. Google Borgia+vanity and find plenty. The Brothers Grimm and Disney got in on the act too. The Disney message seems to be: the truly beautiful don't need to be vain. They are just naturally eye-catchingly gorgeous. And they are all gorgeous. Show me the Reubenesque Princess.
