When does the end justify the means?

Last week, colors began appearing in people's Facebook statuses. I received several messages about it, some entreated me to join in and a few asked me what was going on. Most of the messages were the same coy message most other women -- and yes, just women, no men -- received. It begged that we, to paraphrase, titallate our fellow Facebook users, especially the guys, by posting our bra color without explanation. The concept, you see, was to raise awareness of breast cancer. Always a supporter of initiatives to benefit finding a cure for cancer, I decided to play along...in my own way. I dropped the coy thing, but kept the playful element. When I saw people ask "what's up?" I was honest. Initially, okay once, I stuck to the original message. After that, I began sending out my own. I said, to paraphrase, that the idea was to "check your bra to remember to check your breasts -- self exams monthly!" The next day, I went in for my annual check-up and I tweeted th...

My bedroom, ten things, and a message in a bottle...no relation whatsoever

I got meme'd and I sincerely hope I caught (recalled) them all. First up...the fab Jenn from Serving the Queens started a cool meme about "the me in my room." She wants us to show our bedrooms and how they reflect who we are. So here, I am: All righty then. You can't see a single one of my notes. Sorry about that. What if instead...you tell me what you see. **** Ten things I don't get... I stole this one because (a) Slouching Mom told me I could and (b) I like it. So ten things I don't get: 1. The new Toyota ad campaign. How much do I never, ever want a Toyota sedan if its chief selling point is you can fire a cannon beside it and not wake a sleeping badger who would rip my face off? And then...she does it anyway? Great scott! ACK and YUCK! I hope Toyota can get their money back. 2. People who think 100 calories means healthy. No, it just means less calories. 3. Why I keep falling for the "sugar free" ad campaign. It doesn't mean they left a ...

Truth Will Out 2, the short version

So apparently my last interview meme so traumatized all but a few of the stalwart of you that despite my bared soul ...you ran away screaming. Or maybe not "despite," maybe "because of." ;) LOL So I am challenging myself to use four or less sentences to answer Emily's interview questions. If you would like me to interview you (and if nobody asks, so help me I will...ummm, I don't know, err...write mile long posts of self-deprecation and crying) send me an email at j pippert at g maildotcom. And then be patient. For a long time. Because I will get to you. When I'm not gallivanting . ;) 1) You write about the business you are trying to build, but you don't talk much about specifics. Please tell us about the business you are trying to start and how it is going. I recently published a children's book about autism . I announced it a while back on my blog and linked to the author's blog . It has been a real learning curve running this solo vers...

Truth will out, or The One Where I Get Way Too Personal and Say Out Loud Things that Cause Nausea to Churn in my Belly

When the fabulous Slouching Mom did the interview meme and offered to write questions for any applicants, you can bet I jumped on that bandwagon and asked right away. The only thing was...I had seen Emily (Wheels on the Bus Emily) in my feed reader doing the same meme and knew I'd love questions from both. Luckily for me, both agreed to do it. Slouching Mom sent her questions first, so she's up first. Emily will follow in a second post. 1. An essential question in the psychology of personality is whether one's personality is determined more by genetic or environmental influences. Using Patience's and Persistence's dispositions as a frame of reference, state your opinion as to the relative contributions of nature versus nurture in the development of personality. I'm not sure I could quantify or prove it, but since having children I am more convinced that our personalities are predetermined to the majority degree. I'm not sure whether this surprises or val...

Nebraska...that's a joke, right?

Somebody from Nebraska's board/department of tourism hired the Jay Leno advertising agency to attract people to their state this summer. Ummm...?????? I see their plan: let's draw all those tourist dollars to Nebraska. I mean, after all, how many times can you go to hotshot destinations like Orlando and Williamsburg? So...might as well go to Nebraska! I get it, and I know there are lovely parts of Nebraska. But tell me...does this commercial draw you in? I still feel a wee bit suspicious, like someone is having me on at my expense. While on the topic of nothing much whatsoever... And after weighting this blog down with the unbearable heaviness of being all week, I have some bloggy business to take care of that is much lighter. About a month ago my buddy Roz tagged me for a meme , and since things are a little heavy there now too, this is one silly thing I can do in support of Roz. 1. What were you doing ten years ago today? Today exactly? July 20? Uhhh...??? How about generall...

How I made it out of high school in one piece (remains a mystery not unlike any miracle of life)---Part II

Short note about the Hump Day Hmm for next week: Late again! But better late than never! Next week's topic is courtesy of Snoskred : "The things you carry with you" It might be advice, it might be quotes, past experiences or thoughts, it might be what you literally carry with you. Even some seemingly silly advice like that can make for lifelong habits, for better or worse... Also, I made a button: I have a text file I'll send to each participant who wants it, past, present and future. ************************************************************************************* Many, many thanks to the wonderful Queen of the Mayhem for the grand compliment of ************************************************************************************* When we left off in Part I , our High School Heroine was protesting her innocence overmuch. All she needs is an oversized t-shirt and a creepy nondead guy in a hockey mask to leap out, make some inhuman noise and attempt to slay her fo...

How I made it out of high school in one piece (remains a mystery not unlike any miracle of life)---Part I

Before I launch into any lurid tales of my salad days, I have to give a nod---the best I can under the circumstances of laughing hysterically---to Arkie Mama for her post Marital discord, with a dash of humor In fact, it was so funny to me that I was moved to nominate it for a ROFL Award. I know, the irony is almost even funnier after my BlogRhet pontification of this week. Cut slack for the woman of contradictions, okay? ;) Go see who else got nominated...but not before you scroll down and see my Incredible Confessions of an Aging Woman Recalling High School. Thanks MetroMama and Mrs. Chicky for hosting these. After 40 days of rain, we need a good laugh down here. ********************************************************************************** Slouching Mom tagged me for the high school meme and I took the challenge even though I have a meme from Roz tucked in my back pocket too that ought to come first (sorry Roz, I will get to it swear!). I took it and am doing it because it...

It's always just a day at the beach

Hump Day Hmm Due WEDNESDAY (that's tomorrow) and it's a humdinger... Have you kept a secret or have you lied, directly or by omission, about something big? How did you make your decision---did it bring about justice? How did forgiveness fit in (or not)? Would you do it the same next time? OR flip it and have it be someone kept a secret or lied to you. Or both. Or neither, and just talk about it in general, in principle...for example, discuss a time an important leader lied to people he or she represented. And feel free to give me feedback about this topic or suggest one. And now a little meme fun first from TMI Tuesday: 1. If you were to face the Wizard of Oz, would you want more courage, more brains, or more heart? Right now, I'd ask for more courage. I'd actually want more confidence and bravery, but I'd hope courage would be a package that encompassed those. I've spent the last few years having my rear soundly kicked by life, and lately on the inside---and un...
